In early October, Drs. Tony and Lois Evans introduced the New Kingdom Agenda Conference (formerly called the Church Development Conference). At the opening session, Bible translation was highlighted in a special way as attendants were introduced to Jacqueline Huggins, a real live first African American to be involved completion of a New Testament translation-the Kagayanen New Testament. Bob Creson, President of Wycliffe USA and Jacqueline Huggins presented brief messages about Bible translation to an audience of over 450 church leaders and laity.
What could be more fitting at a Kingdom Agenda Conference than testimonies of Scripture Impact on minority language groups in the Kingdom?! Tuesday evening was the opening session and Dr. Evans mentioned a number of "firsts" happening in our world currently, but Jacqueline Huggins work in Bible translation is a "spiritual first" that will make a difference for eternity. Dr. Tony Evans informed the audience that the relationship between Wycliffe and Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship went all the way back to Mrs. Josephine Makil, the first African American career missionary with Wycliffe. After the session, one pastor said, "Hearing about Jacqueline and this ministry has made my coming to this conference all worthwhile." It was an added bonus to have Bob Creson and his wife Dallas at the Wycliffe table to interact with people who came by to learn more about Wycliffe and to meet Jacqueline. She shared her story in a radio interview with KCBI, a Christian radio station in the October Ebony Magazine. We rejoice to see Jacqueline's testimony bear fruit for the Kingdom.
Also, Wycliffe presented two workshops at the conference. Mark and Estella Trostle presented a workshop Short-term mission trips and your church. I presented Developing a Mission Program for Your Church. Both workshops were well attended.
